Second Life has never been only about the places we visit. It is about the people we meet, the communities we build, the creators we discover, and the identities we shape along the way.
Oxide Connect is being created to bring those parts of Second Life closer together.
It combines a modern social platform built around Second Life identity with a custom viewer experience designed to connect what happens in-world with the people, conversations, destinations, and communities surrounding it.
## More Than Another Social Network
Second Life residents are already spread across websites, social platforms, Discord servers, event listings, blogs, and other outside services. Each one may serve a purpose, but the experience often feels fragmented.
Oxide Social is designed specifically around Second Life.
Residents can create profiles connected to their avatar identities, share posts and photography, follow others, join communities, discover events and destinations, and stay connected even when they are not logged in-world.
The goal is not to replace Second Life. It is to strengthen the connections that already make Second Life meaningful.
## Your Second Life Identity, Verified Safely
Identity matters in a world where our avatar names carry friendships, reputations, creative work, and years of history.
Oxide includes an in-world verification system that allows a resident to connect an Oxide Social profile to their Second Life avatar. The process uses a temporary, one-time verification code through an official Oxide Identity Terminal.
Oxide will never ask for your Second Life password or private Second Life account information.
Verification is designed to confirm that the person using an Oxide profile controls the avatar being connected to it. This helps residents recognize authentic profiles while protecting the privacy and security of their Second Life accounts.
## Connecting Social and In-World Experiences
Oxide Connect consists of two closely related parts.
Oxide Social is the community platform. It focuses on resident profiles, conversations, photography, communities, events, destinations, and discovery.
Oxide Viewer is the custom Second Life viewer currently in development. Its purpose is to bring parts of the Oxide experience closer to the world itself, helping residents remain connected without making the social side feel like a separate afterthought.
Planned viewer areas include Feed, Events, World, Spotlight, and Messages. These areas are still being developed and tested, and their final form will be shaped by real feedback from Second Life residents.
## Discovery Without Losing the Human Side
Second Life is enormous, but discovering where to go and who to meet can still be difficult.
A beautiful destination can sit empty because the right residents never found it. A talented photographer or creator can struggle to reach people outside an existing circle. Communities often rely on scattered notices and external platforms to keep everyone informed.
Oxide is being built to make that discovery more natural.
Residents should be able to find people who share their interests, learn about authentic destinations and events, follow creators, and stay connected to communities without losing the personal nature of Second Life.
Discovery should feel useful, not like an endless stream of noise.
## Built With the Community, Not Only Presented to It
Oxide is still growing, and community feedback is an important part of that process.
Through the Oxide Catalyst Program, selected Second Life residents can help test features, report problems, share ideas, and provide perspective from different parts of the community. Photographers, creators, community leaders, roleplayers, explorers, business owners, developers, and everyday residents all experience Second Life differently.
Those differences matter.
Oxide cannot serve the broader Second Life community by listening to only one type of resident. It needs thoughtful feedback from people who understand what works, what feels missing, and what should be handled with care.
## Privacy and Trust Must Come First
Connecting a social platform to a virtual-world identity creates real responsibilities.
Oxide is being developed with clear boundaries around verification, account access, moderation, and resident privacy. Verification does not require a Second Life password. Residents should understand what information is being used, why it is needed, and how it connects to their Oxide presence.
Trust is not something a platform can simply claim. It must be earned through transparent decisions, responsible development, and consistent treatment of the community.
## What Comes Next
Oxide Social has reached an early working stage with its core platform foundation in place. The Oxide Viewer remains in development, and several planned integrations and tools will continue to evolve through testing.
